Kids love their mamas. And their heartfelt and handmade Mother’s Day gifts and cards reflect that. But it’s not until later in life that we actually appreciate our mothers, is it? For me at least. I was in my twenties or so when I truly started to understand how amazing my mother was and is. So these days, when Mother’s Day approaches, that’s my focus when it comes to gifts. How can I make her feel appreciated? Giving personalized gifts and ones that take time and thought to make seem to do just that. But having recently just started off on my DIY and crafting exploits, I turned to Kate of Centsationalgirl.com and her Best of DIY Gift Ideas. Here are five of my favorite easy and elegant Mother’s Day gift ideas from her round-up:
1. Fabric Flower made with Chiffon (the 100% polyester kind). I’d definitely add a pin and/or clip to the back to make it an accessory. Tutorial over at Creature Comforts Blog.
2. “10 Things I love about you” flip book. The Creative Place gives you a template and lists everything you’ll need.
3. Trivet (or coaster) made of felt. Find the pattern and detailed steps over at How About Orange’s site.
4. Photo-filled “Memory Jars.” Kate wrote this gift tutorial last year for West Elm and linked back to it a few days ago in her Mother’s Day gift post.
5. Stencil a Message or Quote on Fabric. Wit & Whistle shows you what you’ll need. (And we’ve got linen if you’re feeling like making your own throw pillow cover to stencil!)
